Traditional Upholstery Techniques
We use traditional upholstery techniques in our workshop to restore antique or good quality furniture depending on the style and age. Traditional upholstery takes time and patience to ensure that the furniture is carefully stripped back and re-upholstered in keeping with its history, shape and age. Once the chair or sofa is stripped to its frame we would restore using traditional materials if possible ensuring that the materials adhere to current fire and safety regulations. Traditional upholstery is a craft which is only perfected through experience and as an experienced upholstery company we have the skills to undertake even the most complicated of projects.
Antique Dining Chairs Re-Upholstery
In this project, we carefully removed all existing upholstery down to the bare wood. We Inspected the frame and tightened all joints where necessary. We replaced old padding, stuffing, webbing and springs as required. It was then recovered in a Ross Fabrics Faremont collection fabric and finished off with antique studs.
Our upholstery services cover both traditional and modern upholstery techniques but sometimes there is a twist of modern with traditional with the types of fillings that are used. Foam is very popular due to its cost but other types of traditional fillings can be used – for example horsehair which is more expensive. If webbing needs to be replaced on furniture then we can replace with like for like or better quality . You can view some of our recent projects in our portfolio.
